Résumé : A pilot project aimed at assessing the feasibility of carrying out a program to improve the quality of services for postabortion complications, including contraceptive counseling and services, and the impact on client satisfaction was undertaken in Bolivia. In this paper, the results of the pilot project undertaken in three public-sector hospitals from October 1995 through December 1997 are presented. Overall, findings show that it is feasible to implement a postabortion program that significantly improves the quality of care, including contraception acceptance, in the postabortion period, and in resource-constrained facilities. Success of the project is indicated in the request from the Ministry of Health and the directors of the women's health division to maintain the activities in the hospitals and to replicate the project in other regions of the country. These organizations are not those who authorized and initiated the project. In conclusion, the challenge for the three hospitals is to maintain and improve the quality of services being provided after exhaustion of resources and full adoption of the service activities.
